"The Cookhouse" |

Flashback: The Cookhouse was once the Ranch
mess hall. It is said that Had Deane kep a pet deer in this cabin at one
point. During an especially hard winter, a large buck deer was found
stranded in the deep snow. Unable to let it starve, Had and couple of
wranglers lassoed it. It wouldn't lead, but Had found he could tease and
harrass it into charging. The deer was so angry it actually followed Had
right into the cabin. They made a stall in the front bedroom and kept the
animal for the winter. It became friendly to most anyone who fed it, but
kept a grudge against Had, and would not let him enter the building. That
spring, they let the buck free.
